The Prostitution of Social Media Approach

Social Media is about the relationship & nurturing them into business by brands & individuals. Like any relationship it consumes more time to gain the trust.

Social Media ProstitutionThe dark side of some people/brands is that the impatience has made social media engage into crap they choose. The engagement of social media is no different from an unethical practice where they don’t have any values & goals of measurement.

These spammers in social media are not really interested in relationships with the clients or the brands all they want is to engage with anyone and expect instant results, this hurts in the longer run .

In the Social Media & Digital World I would say that there is more time consumption to have a value engagement rather than the meaningless engagements as they shell out the money in purchasing the fans followers and in building a community. I feel it’s just like relationship of a prostitute with an unknown customer who is not interested in the value or brand but just in the amount you spend on the numbers. As the community members that are purchased may take in your brand but in reality they are not in a single relationship, they might take another brand if offered something from there.

After rigorous research I have found that some of the social media people suggest that buying fans from other 3rd party sites like http://get-likes.com, http://fblikesmart.com/, http://buyfacebookmarketing.com/, http://www.fanmenow.com/ http://fiverr.com/ and http://intertwitter.com/ many more sites is a Good Strategy but frankly I am against these kind of people or the information they provide as they could mislead others which can be disappointing.

I often get mails & messages asking for likes on the page & even for invitation, which is not, completed profile as they are just interested in Numbers.

I would say that Social Media is a system that has to build value and converting fans to certain prospects and customers (based on the project goals) 90% of  people I have come across  are not having the success of converting and that includes agencies who are selling the Social Media Services or even training.

Don’t think that this kind of “Prostitution Approach” by spammers or impatience brands

NOW LETS LOOK AT THE SOCIAL GIANTS THAT DO PROSTITUTION FOR BRANDS

As a brand you spend your time and effort to build the brand and engage with the people who are interested in your Brand/Service/Product after some time these Giants make changes or updates which is good for a brand & individual.

If a Brand has 5lac fans and it wants to engage to the 5lac fans at a time it can’t be done, as there are several restrictions, which often cause an obstacle for the brand.

Example: Brand (babypoop) wants to post an offer of $50 of a Baby Diapers for people in California or any location it can be done.

But if the brand wants to target the entire population of California, Bangalore, Delhi, San Francisco it is not possible as the number is higher and it has to pay for the Social Giants to make their reach for the fans which it has created by spending enormous amount of time and value.

You take time to build the brand that engages with the people and make the value with the information you provide. Now if you want to reach them in certain numbers you can’t,  you need to bribe the social giant to reach your customers/clients.

To reach to the people with whom you have relationship, you need to spend money on the social channels which is like Prostitution approach free just for a while and whole entertainment pay and reach them

By doing this only social giants get the values rather than the brand that invests Time, Money, Value, Reputation and more.

When it comes to the brands they face the above problems and may be more but as an individual they are facing even more problems as the Social Media’s main goals has to be Engagement, Value for the people, Interaction with Brands and much more.

Do you think that these things are easily implementable? As being an individual you fall into many restrictions and can’t reach the people whom you have engaged with (many at once).

Don’t you think that this a Digital/Social Prostitution (Social Giants Objects) for a Brand/Individual to reach the people you have built for a certain period of time and engaged with suddenly all gone wrong ?

TIP: The Social Media has rapidly changing into a powerful marketing along with the search media Tools where reach has to be adjusted to the core philosophies and strategies in order to reach their target consumers.

I agree with all the points said by you , shankar. But we cant say whole social media as prostitution, because all the online mediums have same spammers: SEO, PPC , Email marketing & others. Its a part of the game and everything depend on the manager policy of approach in social media.

Social media really works well in certain market segment :)

Shankar,

Agree with you 100% & believe me everyone who is on Social media at some point of time in a day thinks that, there is unnecessary noise in the groups/pages they joined but yet everyone wants to be there as its the powerful medium that enables you to socialize in a virtual world where distance, caste, country, language doesn’t matter.

And so called Brands or businesses try to pollute as they still believe in old fashion “Shouting” or now a days refered as “outbound marketing” and when they din’t get success they blame it but they don’t want to put any value in it because they don’t have it.

Well said Shankar. You may have been taking about all social media channels but Facebook is a great example of this.

They came up with pages, made them useful to companies and businesses, and after people had invested heavily in them in terms of time and fans we are now asked to pay to reach those same fans we worked so hard to get. Facebook is holding us to ransom since there is no other big competition.

It’d be interesting to watch and see how long facebook and push this line. At some point people are going to say enough and we will have our next big SM channel.

Well in my opinion the post cover many aspect about online prostitution. But i would like to add something like Promoter don’t pay for engaging each and every user but they pay to attain new “LIKE” and new visitor.
